Description

Renewing your General Visual Line of Sight Certificate (GVC) through iRed®, a CAA-approved Recognised Assessment Entity (RAE), ensures you maintain compliance with UK drone regulations and continue operating within the Specific Category.

1. Theory Assessment

- All remote pilots must pass the latest theoretical knowledge assessment with a minimum score of 75%.
- Only one attempt is permitted. Failure necessitates retaking the full theoretical course and a different final assessment paper.
- The theory exam can be completed as an AI-proctored online assessment, allowing you to take the exam from home at any time via DigitalChalk.
- Alternatively, candidates may choose to complete the assessment face-to-face at iRed®’s training centre.

2. Practical Flight Assessment

- Remote pilots must retake the practical flight assessment unless they meet exemption criteria.
- Exemption criteria:
  • Minimum of 2 hours of flight activity within the last three months, verifiable through flight logs.
  • If certified for both fixed-wing and multirotor UAS, separate currency must be demonstrated for each class.
  • Submission of the following documents:
    - Proof of identity (e.g., passport or driving licence).
    - Current GVC certificate.
    - Valid Flyer ID.
    - Flight logs substantiating the required currency hours.
- iRed® may request a skills demonstration or recommend additional training if competency cannot be demonstrated through documentation.

Required Documentation

- Proof of identity (e.g., passport or driving licence).
- Current GVC certificate.
- Valid Flyer ID.
- Flight logs demonstrating at least 2 hours of flight activity within the last three months.

- GVC Renewal via iRed®: £299 (inclusive of VAT).
- Operational Authorisation Renewal: £234 annually, payable to the CAA. This fee is subject to annual changes, typically announced in December for implementation on 1st April.

Timing

- The CAA stipulates that renewal exams should not be conducted earlier than six months prior to the certificate's expiry date.
- Renewed certificates are valid for five years from the current expiry date, ensuring no loss of certification time.
